Sorry for not updating in a while!!

Sorry for not updating in a while!! College and school have been MANIC!! so I did voluntary work experience at the Koi Karp centre, loads has happened at college since my last update, like we've got some new Indian porcupines, and Christmas has come!! (or whatever it is you may celebrate during December!)

so, any way it's been a manic, elaborate, fun term.

Onwards and upwards!

weeks 6,7,8 and 9

sorry for not up dating for 4 weeks.
so theory:
David Attenborough DVDs,
posters on how to look after your pet,
work sheets on how to get your pets temperature, heart rate and the like.

Practical:
feeding and cleaning.

week 5

So, 3 weeks (ish) off.
Practical:
Hot arid room: sieving out the sand in the two vivariums.
Pig ISO unit: spot cleaning.

Theory:
filming a short thing about fleas, worms and vaccines.

Week 4

Week 4, right, so handling again.
By now you should know the drill -
Theory: handling - 3 animals - Goats (nearly conquered that fear), Rabbits and Guinea Pigs . yep so interesting.
Practical: feeding and cleaning, took Guinness and Wendy the old arthritic goats in to the paddock.

so it's all quiet for the next three weeks then.

Week 3

So week 3.
This week, theory was our last assignment. To handle four different animals, Helen chose them of course.
Well, we handled a goat each - the sight of my old friend, the goat who head butted me in the back of the knee, obviously made me feel a whole lot more comfortable having my back to a goat - a piglet, no complaints here, and some fully grown pigs. so overall a good lesson.

The practical was just a simple affair of cleaning out the hot arid room (snakes and reptilians) and feeding the occupants.

Overall a great day.

week 2 of the blog

OK, so this week we had double theory. In our "practical" lesson we made posters. Not that I have anything against making a poster on improving an animals enclosure, but three? seariously? but still what was lacking in our first lesson was, and I say this in all sincerity, improved on in our second lesson because our lovely tutor Helen - yes we do call our teachers by their first names - lets us watch a Whale being disected (from the Inside natures giants series), I have to admit though it wasn't the best thing to see strait after lunch.

But still it's all good.

Hi.

OK, so, this blog is going to be about how I - a student at upper school - gets to be a vet nurse.

So, I'm doing a one day a week college course at Shuttelworth College's Animal care Unit and to be honest it's the highlight of my week - even the theory lessons as both the teachers I have at college make the lessons interesting and they get us involved with the lessons, unlike the "lectures" we receive at school.

Anyway, so, lets recap on the term so far shall we?

so, near the start of September last year we wormed (or tried to at least!!) the goats for the first time, since then we've done that every 3 months,
sometime between then and now we gave some baby alpacas their first ever jabs,
and we've done so much since then it's hard to remember them all!
but the latest news from college is that we where trying to worm the goats, Rhea, wallaby's and emu and...um well I was trying to worm an uncooperative wallaby and a goat ran up behind me and head butted me in the back of the knee. At this point I must stress that, that goat had huge side ways pointing horns.

So! that's that! the last thing I have to say is that the road to becoming a vet is long and bumpy, but I know that there will be people following my painstaking efforts on this blog.
